responding to Indentity

Identity

Educate yourself enough so you may understand
the ways of other people
But not too much
that you may lose
your understanding
of your own
Try things palagi
Not so you may become palagi
but so may see the value
of things Sāmoan
Learn to speak Sāmoan
not so you may sound Sāmoan
but so you may
feel the essence
of being Sāmoan
Above all
be aware and proud
of what you are
so you may spare yourself
the agony of those who are asking
“What am I ?”

Lemalu Samau Tate Simi (1995)

Maths problems

problem: Malakai`s mother is making ta´ovala for the boys in the Tongan group at school.each boy needs 1 1/2 meters of mat and she has 30m. how much did she make?

Answer :20

Mr Joe and Mrs Fay

                                                               Bledisloe cup
Bledisloe cup: a couple who won the bledisloe cup and  started market gardening when they were married in 1957.

they could be called citizen sciencentist because when there was an issue with there plants they came up with good ideas to fix them.

Fay gock and joe gock won the bledisloe cup from there market gardening and they become champions.

broccoli: Joe gock came up with a good idea for the broccoli not to go yellow and limp.

when he put it in the fridge he sprayed it with water and it still went yellow and limp but when he came up with this idea he was surprised.

one day he brought a chilly bin home and filled it up with ice and water then he put the broccoli in and waited till the next day.....
he had a look at the broccoli and it was fresh and clean.

seedless watermelon: Joe and Fay were also the first market gardeners in New Zealand to grow seedless watermelons, and this led to another invention - stickers on fruit were the ones that had seeds in them and there was no way to tell them apart cause they were both the same.
and now everyone buys watermelon from the fruit shop

harakeke facts

                                               harakeke facts

How does harakeke grow?
Harakeke is a herbaceous plant, meaning its growth form is soft, not woody. The robust, sword-like leaves are arranged in two adjoining sets around the growing point (rito) to form a fan. A unique feature of harakeke and related plants is that the lower third or so of each leaf is folded together along its midrib or keel. This creates a stiff, heavy butt.

How long does it take harakeke for it to grow?
It could take harakeke 5 to 6 years to grow and if you cut the baby and the parents that are in the middle of harakeke then it will take about 7 to 8 years.you can only take the granparents that are hanging on the side of the harakeke plant.

How to harvest harakeke?
when you cut harakeke you cut it at the end but dont cut it from the top you have to cut on the side.

  1. You can make a manu fantail out of harakeke
  2. You can make a little hand fan out of harakeke
  3. harakeke maori name?Korari
  4. You can also make string and breads out of harakeke
  5. you can make a hat out of harakeke

air pollution

                                                        Environmental problems
Air pollution.air polution is some thing that come from fire and other machine
from stores.

The world  is getting worst and worst because of cars, stores, fire,
mostly every one is getting
sick just because
of the polution that fly's around the world.
air puts you at a higher risk for asthma and other respiratory diseases,
High levels of particle
polution have been associated with higher incidents of heart problems.

Pollution is killing  people and the sea animals people need to help and take
care of earth by
picking up
the rubbish they see and the rubbish that in the water, the more polution the
faster were
gonna die but if we take care of the world then this wont happen that's why
we need to
start picking up the
rubbish and never chuck rubbish on the floor.

When you chuck rubbish on the floor it travels into the sea and when a sea animal
sees it it might think its food and when they eat it it gets stuck in there
throat and then they
cant breath and then they die but
this wont happen if they throw rubbish on the floor people think there
not gonna die but if its happening to other then
its gonna do it to
you.
